Notary Commissions
New Applicants: You must be a registered voter and live in Wayne County. A written exam is given every Wednesday at the Wayne County Common Pleas Court, on the square in Wooster, at 1:00 P.M. You do not need an appointment. A manual for notaries public is available to study for the test and may be picked up at the Courthouse on the square in Wooster. The application fee for a notary commission is $40. Check or money order should be made payable to: Wayne County Bar Association.

Renewal of Notary Commissions: You will NOT receive any notification that your notary is due to expire. You must make application prior to your expiration date. You should renew your notary in the county in which you reside. The earliest you may apply for renewal is 30 days prior to the expiration at the Wayne County Common Pleas Court, on the square in Wooster. No appointment is necessary. Just come in between 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-4:00 p.m.. It will take approximately two weeks to receive your new commission from the State. There is a one-week grace period in which you may apply for a renewal after your commission expires. After that, you must be retested. The application fee for a renewal of your notary commission is $30. Check or money order should be made payable to: "Wayne County Bar Association".

Note: Once you receive your notary commission from the State, you will need to return to the Courthouse, on the square in Wooster, to record your commission with the Clerk of Courts Office. The fee for recording is $5 payable by cash or check.
